We shot a lot of these types of events last year, mostly for online use, but this was one of my favourites as the kids were all so enthusiastic. An early morning yesterday found me leaving the flat at 6am heading for a filming job at the Molesey Boat Club near Hampton Court. We managed to beat the rain which was lucky as most of the filming was done from a wobbly launch on the river following a couple of crews training. We finished off the morning with an interview with Olympic rowing legend Martin Cross (pictured) who was fantastic in front of the camera.

Harlequins Filming for Etihad Airways

Today I needed the wet weather cover for my camera. The rain was torrential as we got out of the car in Twickenham after an early start to film a Harlequins training session at the Stoop. The rain luckily soon cleared away giving way to a glorious sunny afternoon. We were filming for a video to go on the in-flight entertainment system for Etihad Airways (the main sponsor of the Harlequins team). The players were super helpful and we were away in time for a late lunch on the way home.

Buckingham Palace Exploration and Adventure Reception

I'm still on a high after an incredible evening at Buckingham Palace last night with my girlfriend and my brother, where I attended a reception for people involved in Exploration and Adventure. It was whilst going through the front gates that I saw Reinhold Messner in front and felt very unqualified to be invited. Inside were many of my childhood heroes including Chris Bonnington, Ranulph Fiennes and David Attenborough as well as other faces ranging from Dame Ellen McArthur to David Walliams. I enjoyed meeting Charley Boorman (who of course arrived on a bike) and Bruce Parry but also was humbled by everyone I met, all of whom deserved to be there far more than me! The reception marked the 100th Anniversary of Scott's journey to the South Pole, and the exhibition at the Queen's Gallery has an impressive collection of photographs from both Scott and Shackleton's expeditions. well worth a visit.

Loughborough Paralympic Filming

My alarm rang at 3.15am this morning and by 4am I was on the road out of London heading up to Loughborough. I had to be there by 7am to film potential paralympic triathletes being put through their paces. Helping out were former Olympians Iwan Thomas (400m record holder), Jane Egan (UK Paratriathlete) and Clare Cuningham (Paralympic 50m Gold medallist and world record holder).

It was a very long day filming poolside as well as on and by the track but we came back to London around 7pm with lots of great footage. Fantastic day, only partly marred when another car drove into the back of mine when nearly home. Luckily all the kit was undamaged (as well as my passenger and me!). I'll be without a car for the next couple of weeks!

ACE Africa - Gala Dinner at Lords

Yesterday I spent the evening at the MCC filming a fundraising event for ACE Africa, a leading NGO in Kenya involved in sustainable community orphan support. The evening was hosted by Radio 4's Paddy O'Connell and there were a number of sporting stars making an appearance in a Question of Sport style quiz, including Darren Gough, Andrew Castle and Steph Cook. Towards the end of the evening, BBC auctioneer James Lewis hosted an auction, which with all the other events raised over £55,000.

Atlas Mountains Paragliding - Second Attempt on Toubkal

I'm just back from a second attempt to climb Toubkal, North Africa's highest mountain and paraglide from the summit. Last years attempt was scuppered by strong winds at the summit so this year we prepared a streamlined team of six pilots and allowed more time to wait out bad weather. Sadly once again we were unable to fly from the summit due to strong unforecasted winds, but we had many hours of flying in other sites including some lovely coastal soaring and thermalling. Third time lucky?!

This time we were in Birmingham with IHG filming in the High Performance Centre at Alexander Stadium. It was another Masterclass session with tips on shot put, long jump and middle distance running.

Last Day of Summer

It must all be downhill from here. The past few days have allowed some good paramotoring in lovely smooth conditions. The highlight today was flying over West Wittering beach and seeing all the people in traffic james heading to the coast before cramming together on the beach. Fun? Not as fun as flying over it all in lovely warm temperatures before landing on an emptier stretch of beach for a swim as I did a few days ago. The fact it appeared to be a male only nudist beach only slightly detracted from the experience! I'm off the week after next to Morocco for ten days on a combined flying and climbing trip in the Atlas mountains and will be bringing my camera. The aim is to climb to the summit of Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, before unpacking a paraglider and flying down. If this sounds familiar, maybe it's because we attempted it last year. We were thwarted by strong winds but have our fingers crossed for better weather this time. Business as usual on my return at the start of November.

Cordes-sur-Ciel - France Filming

I'm just back from four days in France filming an event in and around Cordes-sur-Ciel, near Toulouse in France. Despite having lived and worked in the area twenty years ago, I had never been to Cordes. It is a 'bastide' built in the early 13th century, all its buildings clustered on a small hilltop. We were filming a multi-day event which involved lots of music, beautiful food and not much sleep!

I was there to shoot part of a video promoting the Tesco wine fair to attract visitors to future events. Andrea Bocelli in the Raphael Gallery - V&A Museum

Last weekend Helen Jenkins won the World Championship Series triathlon at Hyde Park to secure her qualification for the 2012 Olympics team. We caught up with her yesterday at the GE Capital headquarters in the Ark in London to do some filming with her and triathlete husband Mark. Both of them were as charming as ever and very patient with our filming requests. Congratulations to Helen - we'll be cheering for her next year.

Today found me at Hyde Park's Mandarin Oriental Hotel, to film London's Islamic Fashion Festival. The IFF has staged events in Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, Astana, Dubai, Jakarta, Monte Carlo, New York, Singapore and Bandung. Several designers were showcased in between various musical performances, including a beat boxer accompanied by an electric violin! Slightly surreal but a fun day. The day was hosted by the First Lady of Malaysia, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and guest of honour was Princess Charlotte of Monaco.

There were multiple locations including the Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and even one memorable evening at Maiden Tower which occupies a tiny island in the middle of the Bosphorous. Non-stop work, but what a fascinating city.

National Cycling Centre - Manchester Velodrome

It's been a busy couple of weeks with work non-stop every day. At the start of the week I was filming in Manchester at the National Cycling Centre velodrome. It was for IHG who have been running a series of masterclasses over the past few months as part of the build up to the 2012 Olympics. Victoria Pendleton was on hand to offer cycling tips and speak to the assembled employees who were trying out the track. I had no ideas the corners were so steep - watching it on the television makes them appear much more benign. Before returning to London I had a two day event to film near Melton Mowbray. It was a secret event so any details would breach my confidentiality agreement! Back home now I have a day off before going to Istanbul for a five day job. More details on my return.

Back at Hyde Park again today, this time filming at The Lookout, a brand new nature centre in the heart of the park to encourage city children to explore the outdoors and learn outside the classroom. I filmed a school group who were given a tour followed by some planting. The weather was glorious and the children were very well behaved. Who said never to work with children and animals?!

Ballet, Flamenco & Diana Ross at the Royal Opera House

Yesterday took me to the Royal Opera House where I was filming a private party. What a stunning location. There was a dance performance on the main stage with ballet, modern, tap and flamenco followed by a dinner below the impressive glass and ironwork barrel roof. Topping off the evening was an hour long performance by Diana Ross. A long shoot but fantastic entertainment.

Today was an unexpectedly sunny day - I was at the Serpentine all day filming a triathlon masterclass given by Olympic athletes Marc and Helen Jenkins. In the morning we had a group of school children who were given an introduction to the three disciplines. Mark and Helen were in the water giving them swimming tips whilst Watt Bikes were on hand with cycling optimisation tips and the Running School were giving advice on running. In the afternoon it was the turn of some General Electric employees (GE being one of the Jenkins' sponsors). Great fun as always!

Yesterday I spent the day at a canoe club in Teddington filming with Tim Brabants, winner of Britains first gold medal in canoeing. He was incredibly patient with our filming requirements, spending most of the day racing up and down for the camera after a gruelling early morning training session. He deserves another gold next year and I for one will be cheering for him!

More Aerial Photography

Making the most of the sunny weather last week I added four hours to my flying logbook in one day and explored the south coast with a few friends. Our amazing paramotors are the ideal platform to take stunning photographs in the sunshine. All this practice will come in handy at the end of this month when I head to Annecy to fly tandem with world paragliding record holder Toby Colombe as he attempts to break a world tandem paragliding record. I will take with me my video cameras and a stills camera to record the attempt. The weather will be the deciding factor in how successful we are but I will report back on my return.

Jo Jackson - UK Speedwalker Olympic Hopeful

Jo Jackson can walk 20 kilometres in one hour and 31 minutes... that's an astonishing 7 minutes and 22 seconds per mile which would be impressive for someone running let alone walking. She was at a press conference yesterday at a Bloomsbury Hotel and I caught up with her long enough to film some of her tips on walking fast. We had to ask her to slow down so I could do a tracking shot of her walking!

Florence Filming

Just back from three days in Italy, filming a Russian party at locations both in and just outside Florence. Tuesday was a long 18 hour day of filming ending up with a party and one of the biggest fireworks displays I've ever seen. The main party was at Villa Collazzi, an impressive landmark designed by Michelangelo in 1560 on a hill a few miles south of Florence. Its huge rooms provided a magical backdrop for an unforgettable night.

Visa Olympics Filming - Steve Redgrave and Roger Black

This week I spent three days filming back at Formans Fish Island, a conference venue (and salmon smokehouse!) literally a stones throw from the Olympic stadium. They were similar events to one I filmed in September last year. This time Steve Redgrave was joined by Roger Black for the hosting duties. The client was Visa who are one of the main Olympics 2012 sponsors. In between smoked salmon bagels, retailers were able to meet selected Olympic athletes from the British team as well as try their hand at a variety of sports including fencing, table tennis and rowing. None of them beat Redgraves distance record on the rowing machine but they all gave it their best shot.

Olympic triathlete filming

It was an early start yesterday, up at 4am to film Olympic triathletes Marc and Helen Jenkins. This was just another day for them, up at 5am to start their daily training with a swimming session before returning home for breakfast, followed by a run, then lunch, then cycling... then some strength and conditioning training. They should look exhausted but instead they are the picture of health. I spent the day with them, filming their training indoors and out. Luckily the rain stayed away and we got some great footage. They were very accommodating to our filming requests and managed to keep smiling and joking all day. I got home after 10pm after a very long day but can't complain after comparing my average day with theirs! I will certainly be cheering for them next year at the London Olympics.

100 Mile Paramotor Flight

Last week I took advantage of light winds and clear skies to take a long return flight on the paramotor with two friends from Guildford up to Membury. It was a very cold flight, minus three degrees in the air which made about minus 25 with windchill. The outward flight was just over 50 miles, negotiating the landing approach at Farnborough and nearby danger areas, and the return flight was through much more open airspace and countryside before turning east past Lasham and Alton. There was other aerial activity - we were buzzed by a light aircraft who wanted to take a closer look, and more excitingly a Chinook flew across our path fairly close. I must do some more video filming from the air soon, but am having too much fun taking photos. If anyone wants an aerial photo of their house, let me know!

Tony Hadley, Nelly & N-Dubz Event Filming

Another music based event to film last night, with some great music acts including Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet, Nelly and N-Dubz. I have to admit I wasn't familiar with the latter two, but enjoyed their performances. Tony Hadley was fantastic and we were all waiting for him to sing GOLD... which he did, soon joined in the chorus by most of the guests!

Denise Lewis - Holiday Inn Olympics filming

On Thursday and Friday I was shooting some video for Holiday Inn to be used in the run-up to 2012 as they are the Official Hotel Sponsor for the London Olympics. On Thursday we filmed some sit volleyball with some of the paralympic atheletes after which Denise Lewis came to do a presentation. On Friday we were up in Coventry filming some goalball. This is another paralympic sport which I'd never heard of, but I came away with a new respect for the visually impaired athletes who play with a ball that has a bell in it. I never got the chance to ask Denise whether she still has that amazing six pack.

Venice Filming

Just back from three days in Venice filming a two day event in several locations around the city. I last visited nineteen years ago aged 17 travelling around Europe on an InterRail ticket. I wish I had returned sooner - what a beautiful city.

It's hard to pick out my favourite part of the job; Filming the Friday night party in the renovated La Fenice theatre, the 120 piece orchestra and choir playing just feet away from me on Saturday afternoon, or the party on Saturday night in a massive crumbling warehouse lit by candles. We were carried between venues by 40 year old wooden water taxis. Chugging down the tiny waterways at 4am was certainly a highlight.

Barcelona Conference Filming

Having never visited Barcelona before, I was excited to get a four day job there filming at an IBM conference. I am sure the city is as beautiful as people say, but sadly I spent all my time there either filming interviews in a black windowless room, or catching up on sleep in my hotel room! Having said that, I did enjoy my half hour walk through the suburbs to work as dawn broke, even though these palms were the most photogenic things I saw all week!

Toubkal Attempt - Paragliding in Morocco's Atlas Mountains

I'm just back from an eventful week in Morocco. The aim was to climb Toubkal (4,167m) and be the first British team to paraglide from the summit. Things didn't quite turn out as planned. The week before we arrived there was a serious paragliding accident which ended with the pilot being evacuated by an RAF helicopter that just happened to be in the country. This resulted in the Moroccan authorities closing the local area to paragliding until further notice so we had to go further afield to get in the air. The flying we had was sensational - lovely long thermic flights overlooking mountains and brown plains.

The walk to the summit of Toubkal was fantastic, after initial poor forecasts, the weather was looking favourable for our flight from the top. In the end, we summitted in 60km/hr winds and sub zero temperatures which made taking off impossible. The views from well above the low lying clouds were beautiful. We had to make do with a consolation flight from lower down the mountain where the winds were much lighter. See a write-up of the trip by one of the team here.

During our week our team helped down a girl suffering from altitude sickness as well as assisting another group after a heart attack fatality on a high take off - that is another story in itself, but after that experience I am signing up for a first aid course. Back at work now planning a return...

Paradise Island, Bahamas - Joan Rivers & The Jersey Boys

On Thursday evening I received a call asking if I could get on a flight to the Bahamas the following morning to film a three day corporate party at the One & Only Ocean Club. It was a non-stop event involving three cameramen filming 16 to 17 hour days in the Bahamian heat. We averaged around 5 hours sleep a night so there was no time for sitting on the beach!

Amongst the evening entertainment over the three day event was a stand up routine by Joan Rivers, and a long set by the Jersey Boys. By day the guests had activities including deep sea fishing, snorkelling and swimming with dolphins. The champagne flowed, the sun shone and we got a lot of very good footage! I'm going to catch up on some sleep now.

Steve Redgrave at VISA conference

I spent the morning filming at Forman's Fish Island, an unlikely location for a conference centre on the upper level of a salmon smoking factory in East London. It is billed as the closest venue to the 2012 London Olympics site. Today it was hosting an event for VISA with Steve Redgrave (who brought along his five Olympic gold medals) as well as a selection of Britains 2012 hopefuls. The smoked salmon bagels were delicious!

Kate Moss Exclusive

Last night I filmed an exclusive interview with Kate Moss at Longchamp's London store. She was there towards the end of London Fashion Week to promote her latest collection of bags. She was joined by friends including Philip Green, Mario Testino, Sadie Frost, Jaime Winstone and many others. We were the only camera crew allowed in the store but outside it was a different story - punches were thrown and photographers trampled as Kate arrived. London Fashion Week 2010

Liz Earle - 15th Anniversary event

There were eighty people packed into the store to hear Liz speaking and to get signed copies of her new book as well as snap up some products while they were there. Last night I filmed a huge event at Coworth Park, the new luxury country house hotel in Berkshire. It opened especially for this party and what a party it was, culminating in the most impressive fireworks display I have ever seen... sadly I didn't see as much of it as I would have liked as I was filming guests reactions while the display itself was covered by another camera! Having filmed Beverley Knight a couple of years ago I thought I knew what to expect but she surpassed herself. I hope to film her again soon!

Guinness Filming - Dublin

On Thursday I took an early flight to Dublin for a job at the Guinness Storehouse. I was there to direct a video about how to pour a perfect Guinness from bottles of their Foreign Extra Stout. It was a long day and I rushed back to the airport to catch my flight home, only to find that it had been delayed several hours. I crawled into bed at around 2.30am for a few hours sleep before getting up early for a 16 hour filming shift the following day. I now need to catch up on sleep!

Alpine XC Paragliding

I have just returned from a weeks cross country paragliding in France. We flew from a number of different sites in the French Alps from Annecy to Nice, flying at legendary sites including Laragne and St Andre.

The weather was not ideal for long cross country flights with low cloudbase and prolonged stable conditions, but I flew two immensely memorable paragliding flights over the high mountains, flying with vultures, sailplanes, and a fantastic group of friends.

Wimbledon

There wasn't much croquet going on at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Monday. It must have been the hottest day of the year and already warm as I arrived at 8.30am. I was there to film hospitality clients and it was a busy day. My broadcast pass got me on to the roof of the Broadcast Centre from where I had great views over the grounds. What a shame I had to work as it would have been fun to watch some of the action!

Cap Ferrat

I nearly didn't make it to my job in the South of France after French air traffic controllers decided to strike last week. In the end my flight was only delayed an hour and I landed at Nice in the evening sunshine on Thursday evening. I spent three days filming an event at Cap Ferrat before flying home on Saturday night. I crawled into bed at 3am after yet another delayed flight wishing i was still on the beach.

Cambridge Corporate Filming

Over the past month I have been filming interviews at various pharmaceutical companies around Europe to be edited together for a conference. Today I drove up to Cambridge to film a pre-conference round table discussion with four industry experts and a discussion leader. There was a lot of set-up involved to ensure that all five people round the table were adequately lit and that the audio would be ok. I could have done with an extra pair of hands but all went well and as yesterday I was filming on my own with two cameras.

The format was a loose Q&A session seeing if they could learn anything from Nicky's approach in making such a success of the Alpha Course. Filming was all done on my own with two cameras.

West Sussex Coastal Flying

Yesterday I went down to West Sussex to fly from a farm near Pulborough. The weather was perfect, sunshine and a good breeze. The sailplanes were already thermalling at nearby Parham when I arrived at the farm. I had not flown from there before and it turned out to be a perfect site at the top of a hill looking south to the South Downs. I met the farmer Seymore and a friend Mark and we decided on a flight to Littlehampton along the coast via Arundel. I had a couple of failed launches with the wind switching directions, but was soon airborne with the other two around 11am and followed them along the river towards Arundel. Past the castle the sea came into sight. The beach at Littlehampton was packed with people enjoying the late May sunshine. Seymore dropped down until he was literally skimming the sea. I had realised I was low on fuel as I hadn't fuelled up fully and so had maintained height until I passed the built up area and could turn north again.

Having turned north I kept gaining height as I knew the remaining fuel wouldn't get me all the way back. I was looking for landing options as I flew. Just past Parham the engine stuttered and then died. I was three miles from the farm. There were plenty of landing options but I thought I would see if I could glide home. I made it with six hundred feet to spare and landed with a sigh of relief. Lots of great photos from the day but I should have taken my video camera as well...

Donna Ida - Grazia TV

This morning I was locked with lots of women in the fashion cupboard at the Grazia offices, to film Donna Ida's denim fashion tips. It's a tough job! As always in the company of fashionable people I felt a bit out of place, but thankfully I escaped comment on the fit and cut of my jeans which are sooooo last season... Extreme Mental Adventure - Team Building Event

On Friday and Saturday I was filming an event called "Extreme Mental Adventure" which turned out to be a cross between an adventure race, orienteering event and puzzle contest. It started off on Friday night with a night navigation task through the woods of the New Forest. The following day involved cycling, running and canoeing combined with a number of mental puzzles to be solved. It is a different sort of event as it called for brains as well as brawn, which meant that it wasn't necessarily the fittest team that would win. The wet weather called for lots of dry lens cloths but we came away with plenty of footage to edit a promotional video for the event organiser Zing. Heinz Conference Filming

It was the last in a series of interviews over the past month for a pharmaceutical company which have also taken me to Germany and Surrey to film interviews with representatives from four of the major pharma companies. Filming in the Maldives

For the past week I have been filming a party in the Maldives. Different locations on various islands, with fire-eaters and local drumming bands offered lots to point my camera at. Temperatures well into the 30's and humidity of around 80% meant that filming conditions were challenging. Lots of hard work but what an office to work in! I managed a few swims in the hotel pool as well as snorkelling around the island reef just outside my bedroom door so it wasn't all work.

The flight problems meant that getting back to London was an expedition in itself, involving planes, trains and buses and lots of walking around with all my filming kit. In the end I managed to get back via Male, Doha, Milan, Geneva and Paris. Phew - I have another job tomorrow so failure was not an option!

The job is for Procter & Gamble who have commissioned the filming to gather information for product development. We met some interesting people but it was certainly made a change from filming celebrity parties!

Winter Olympics 2010 - Vancouver

Back at last from Canada where I spent a month filming at the 2010 Olympics for Samsung who were one of the title sponsors. We had tickets to a lot of the events but the highlight was the ice hockey final between Canada and the USA. What an experience! The atmosphere on the streets afterwards was electric and the party continued late into the night. It was hard work with long hours but the team was fantastic and it looks like we'll be working together again at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China later in the year. The month was topped off by four days skiing and relaxation in Whistler where we had clear blue skies and lots of skiing.

Venezuela Paramotor Update

We've been in the Gran Sabana area of Venezuela on the Brazilian border for a few days now. It is very hot and dry... unexpected really for one of the wettest areas in the world. The first hurdle was getting the paramotors into the country. Luckily the airline didn't ask any awkward questions after we paid them a hefty excess baggage fee, but Venezuelan customs were less keen to let them into the country without an even larger payment. The main thing is that all three Miniplane paramotors arrived undamaged and once we put them together they have been working a treat with just two carburettor problems so far due to dirty fuel. We have had some incredible paramotoring over wide open savannah, running in the new engines and getting used to the large wings. We have some great video footage and photos. Hopefully a lot more to come...

Yesterday we flew over the jungle to an Indian village 30km away. It involved a flight over some worryingly dense jungle so we had to gain height before committing to the crossing. We landed on their football pitch in the middle of a very important game but the chief was happy when Michel gave him his first paramotor lesson.

We have lots more flights planned around the jungles and tepuis of this beautiful part of the world so watch this space. Internet connection here is very slow so don't hold your breath! Pecha Kucha Evening - 2nd February 2010

If there are any Japanese people reading this, I'd love to know what Pecha Kucha means. What I do know is that there will be fifteen speakers from the world of expeditions, adventure and travel speaking on subjects ranging from rowing oceans, climbing Everest, walking and cycling across continents, crossing ice caps, trekking to the North Pole (and South Pole) all the way to flying cars, climbing Kilimanjaro in a wheelchair and spending six months living in a tree house. If you're thinking that sounds like a long evening, the best bit is that each speaker has twenty photos to show and each photo changes automatically after only twenty seconds, so there's no chance of them droning on for hours. It all makes for a high paced, varied, original evening. Great fun for the audience but challenging for the speakers... especially as I'm one of them!

It's all happening at 7pm on the 2nd February at the the Roxy Bar, in an informal setting so you can sit on sofas with a beer or eat a light meal while watching the event. Friendly heckling will be encouraged! This evening of adventure is being held to raise funds and awareness for Hope and Homes for Children. Entry can be reserved by clicking here, and making a minimum donation of £15. All the proceeds from the event will go to support the work of this charity. Venezuela Paramotor Expedition

In the New Year I'm off to Venezuela with my brother Tom on a paramotoring expedition to the tepuis of the Gran Sabana, the inspiration for Conan Doyle's "Lost World". We will be joined by world paramotor champion Michel Carnet whose vast flying experience will be invaluable for us as we attempt to fly over the Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world. I will of course be taking my camera equipment with me to film the trip. We are hoping that the weather will be kind to us as it is notoriously changeable. Whatever happens, it's bound to be a great adventure!

Eva Schloss - Holocaust Survivor

Last night I was filming a play about the horrors of the holocaust. "And Then They Came For Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank" was both shocking and moving, using pictures and voices from real holocaust survivors. Even more poignant was that Eva Schloss, the woman at the centre of the story along with Anne Frank, was present to answer questions after the performance. The play is coming back to the West End soon, if you get a chance to see it, I highly recommend you go and watch it.

Will Young

Just back in London from a private party in the Midlands where Will Young performed a forty five minute set. My footage went up on two screens either side of the stage. I have to say he was one of the best acts I have yet filmed, very good rapport with the audience, great performer and a very good voice. Forty five minutes of magic! Went to bed at 4am then drove four hours back down to London to film a party this evening. Sadly Will isn't singing at that one.

Last night I was filming an event in the Great Room at the heart of the Grosvenor House Hotel. It had been transformed into a theatre for the evening for the 800 or so guests. The entertainment was hosted by Alistair McGowan and there were a number of acts, including the Royal Ballet, Leslie Garrett, Curtis Stigers, and The Jersey Boys. Austin Healey and Erin Boag, the runners up of Strictly Come Dancing in 2008 also made an appearance, as did Faces of Disco, semi-finalists in this years Britain's Got Talent. The highlight of the evening though was Kylie who did a 45 minute set and got everyone on the dance floor.

English Poker Open 2009

I'm up in Nottingham filming the inaugural English Poker Open at the Dusk Till Dawn Club. Some of the footage is being used in a live web stream, some is posted on the English Poker Open site in video blog form, and some will be used in an upcoming Sky broadcast edit. We've been here for the past three days and it's been non-stop, filming all the poker action along with interviews. Flawless

I had a late night filming the dance group Flawless at an event at the Dorchester Hotel in London yesterday. They put on an incredible performance at a private party. I was glad of the chance to pass on some of my favourite moves to them, but for some reason they didn't seem very interested!

K-Club Pro Celeb Golf

Yesterday I was filming golf at the prestigious K-Club in Ireland. It was the 2009 pro celeb event in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation organised by Ronan Keating. Bobby Charlton and Jasper Carrot were among the familiar faces present. Having filmed last years event, I thought I knew what to expect but we weren't prepared for the monsoon conditions that lasted all day. It was only when we had packed up our kit and were off to the airport that the skies cleared. Tough conditions to film in but we got some good footage for a short 25 minute Sky Sports programme.

Today I spent the afternoon with Jade Ewen, winner of the selection for Britains entry into the Eurovision Song Contest this year. I filmed some studio rehearsals and performances as well as some interviews. Look out for her debut album which is due out next month, you never know, we could even see a number one from her... Cap Ferrat Filming

Two weeks ago I was filming a huge event in Cap Ferrat in the South of France. It was a job with two other cameramen and I did a mammoth 16 hour shift. The location was at the luxury Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat followed by a party at the waterside Club Dauphin. For a change we even managed a swim the following morning before flying back to London.

USSR 2009 - 250 mile paramotor vol-bivouac

Over the Bank Holiday weekend I took part in the Ultralight Single Seat Rally (USSR), a flying event whose aim was to fly as far as possible in 50 hours, starting and ending at the same point. We started at Sywell aerodrome in Northamptonshire. Andy and I were aiming to get to Scotland and set off heavily loaded with full fuel tanks and bivy kit.

Over the first two and a half hours we flew 100 miles with a good tailwind past Leicester, Nottingham, skirting the eastern edge of the Peak district and Sheffield, eventually being forced down by strong winds near Barnsley. We landed on fast trim making barely any headway. After refuelling we waited for the wind to drop but it moved round to the west so we decided to change our route and fly east with the wind. Taking off late afternoon we flew south of York to Filey, just south of Scarborough covering 75 miles in two and a half hours. We slept in a field after a very good curry at a local Indian restaurant.

The next day we had a late start after trying to find out what the wind was going to do. We followed the coast down from Bridlington and had a superb flight along a 15km stretch of coastline a metre or so above the sand. Turning west to avoid the wide Humber we encountered a headwind and progress slowed to a crawl. We landed to refuel near Scunthorpe and slept a few hours while the wind switched back and forth. After a hairy take-off slightly uphill in unpredictable winds we set course for Skegness aiming to follow the coast and avoid thermic conditions further inland. Sadly my motor started losing power 15 minutes into the flight and I was forced to land. Although a huge disappointment not to finish, it was the best journey I've had so far on the paramotor. Andy made another 30km that evening but also had to retire from the event after breaking a propellor taking off the next morning in unpredictable winds. Huge thanks to Mary for driving three hours to pick me up after I'd walked for an hour and a half with all my kit. See below for the route... it was meant to extend up to Gretna, but that will have to wait until next time.

NEC Baby Show

Two Week Studio Shoot

For the past two weeks I have been filming roulette in a Wapping studio. The footage will be used for real-time online gaming so we had to film a lot of clips to cover all the possible outcomes. It was a blue-screen shoot with five different presenters. The biggest challenge was filming the ball landing twice on all 37 spots on two wheels in both directions. This took two days of solid spinning! I don't want to see another roulette wheel for a long time...

Round London Paramotor Vol-Bivouac Flight

At the weekend it was the inaugural London Paramotor Rally. Around 70 pilots had registered for this event which aimed to cicumnavigate London roughly following the M25 whilst avoiding any controlled airspace. The route is just over 260km with a total flying time of around 7 hours. Sadly the weather wasn't kind to us so the route wasn't completed. Four of us decided to try again and so on Wednesday we took off from a field near Guildford loaded down with full fuel tanks, sleeping bags and lots of warm clothing. It was a late start but we were in the air by 5pm. Conditions were perfect and the highlight was following the Thames at Henley as rowers enjoyed the evening sunlight. Two and a half hours later we landed at Bovingdon, a disused airfield to refuel at a nearby petrol station. Taking off again we had half an hour in the air before we had to land 20 minutes after sunset in a field inside the M25 near Potters Bar. After visiting the local pub, we spent a cold night in the field in bivy bags next to our machines. Up at 4.30am to pack up, load up and take off at first light. Our wings were soaking wet with dew and it took me two attempts to lift off in the nil-wind conditions. There was low lying mist on the ground and we followed the M25 east then turning south to cross the Thames at Dartford. Here the wind picked up and we descended to take advantage of the wind gradient. Still following the M25 we landed at Clacket Lane services after two and a half hours to refuel and warm up. After taking off again, conditions became more thermic and windy but it was just a case of following the North Downs past Box Hill towards Guildford. We landed late morning tired but very happy. Basra Filming

For the past few days I've been out in Iraq filming Laura Critchley visiting the troops and doing a few impromptu gigs. The adventure started at Brize Norton where we boarded a charter flight to Kuwait. From there we boarded a Hercules C-130 for the night flight to Basra. I sat in the cockpit with the pilot and co-pilot for the flight which was fascinating, using night vision goggles to see through the darkness. We approached Basra with all lights off and did a steep tactical approach. After an impromptu performance for some American troops outside the hanger at 2am we were shown to our room. We each had a coffin-like bed walled on three sides with breeze blocks and topped off with armour plate covered in sandbags. Cosy!

Over the next two days we were looked after impeccably. Highlights included a low flight up river in a Lynx helicopter (see above) towards the Garden of Eden where the rivers Tigris and Euphrates meet to form the Shatt al-Arab river and going out on patrol with the RAF Regiment in a convoy of Bulldog tanks (see below). The professionalism of the troops could never be faulted and we always felt protected, walking away from the tanks and into a school to watch the Iraqi police distribute pens, books and toys to the children.

At all times within the COB, we had to have body armour and helmet within 20 metres in case of rocket or mortar attack. Outside the COB we wore it at all times. Luckily there was no such excitement. It was such an intense couple of days that we returned exhausted. I can't imagine how tired the troops are after being there for six months. I was filming the whole time and returned with around ten hours of footage. I didn't have time to take one stills photo so these are library stock, but will get some off the others and post when possible. Also with us was Xavier Pick (MOD War artist) and Tony Moore (singer/songwriter and founding member of Iron Maiden). Xavier always had his sketch book out and captured some beautiful scenes (see below for an example of his work).

Coastal flying in Cornwall

Just back from a few days in Cornwall staying in a cottage near Fowey. We were surrounded by fields, one of which was perfect for paramotor take offs. I had a couple of perfect evening flights along the coast, flying over the Eden Project and up to Looe.

Sadly although Tom also had his machine, he was flat out on his back all week with back pain. Hopefully he'll be back on his feet and in the air soon. What a shame he wasn't able to fly with me - it was idyllic.

A Varied Job!

Last night I got to bed at 3am after filming a huge celebrity in central London (sadly no details due to confidentiality agreement) and five hours later I had to get up and drive to Walthamstow to film at an egg depot. The footage (from the egg shoot) is to be used in a publicity video for Medina Dairies. Over the past week I have been filming at several of their sites, everything from cows being milked to milk being bottled and loaded onto lorries. Variety is the spice of life... curried egg anyone?

Last night I worked at a private event which involved a lot of music acts. Natalie Cole, Donna Summer and Sam Moore, ("the Frank Sinatra of soul music"), all performed. The evening finished up with them all performing on stage at the same time joined by Shirley Bassey. I couldn't quite believe I was watching it!

Another red carpet job this evening, this time Monsters vs. Aliens at the Vue in Leicester Square. I filmed Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland, both of whom were very chatty.
